any midseason predictions?

here's an easy one: an early exit from the NT for Hartwick due to atrocious FT shooting.

George Fox wins 20 games and misses all tourneys

How bout this one: Anderson, with its #2 ranking and RPI of 43, ruins someone's bracket badly.
What kind of seed is that team going to get?
1/26/2008 9:57 AM
their RPI just took a major hit...2 losses in the last 2 to put them on the bubble...

Somehow Wesley lost too, and now I jumped up 2 slots to #1 after being number 3 for the last like 15 games....

That's the price camrun pays for a 350+ non-conference SOS every season.

does he never schedule games at all? if so, you are right, that would be (potentially) the price he pays. On the other hand, if he squeaks in as a 14-seed, if quickly becomes the price someone else pays.

KY seems like the non conference schedule hasn't hurt on the way to 3 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS so far. If my team was so weak all the seasons I don't think I would have the runs deep in the tourney I have had. Sure I play a few cupcakes as well as try to schedule games against top coaches( breum, taz, mulder, etc... You don't see many top programs schedule game after game against top schools non conference. I try and do a little realism with 1 or 2 matchups and hope that my conference is up to the challenge. However, even though the conference has improved no one has reached the level to win the Conference Championship yet. I'll try and do better with my scheduling next season.

Guys,
Sorry for the rant. I usually don't talk smack. I try and play the games and let the team go as far as it can, speak for itself and congradulate those coaches that beat me. I have been playing a long time and took my lumps early on. KY is a good coach and we have had some good games the past several seasons. If he chooses to play a top 5 schedule every year than great. But he then has to scramble for wins. Just thought it was a knock on how I play the game and I think I play it very well. If I don't qualify this season than it will be the first in a long time. Maybe I will rethink my scheduling. All good things come to an end eventually. Who knows maybe it's time someone else coached Anderson. I'm getting a little burnt out.

wow, i only posted that yesterday because I was bored and thought your team would be an interesting delimma for the computer as far as seeding goes...what to do with the #43 RPI, #2-ranked and seriously good team. I was really worried I would end up the 5-seed forced to play you as a 12 in round one. or some such crap.
I was ***uming, without looking, that you had a decent noncon schedule and that your conference was bringing you down. you appear to have played 2 good teams and 8 patsies. i am pretty sure kyb isn't attempting to slight your gameplay... if he is, he is a lot dumber than i think he is. after all, he went 3-7 noncon and may have the opposite problem of you-- too tough a schedule. Looks to me like a philosophical difference. I actually think having the proper schedule is one of the tougher and more overlooked parts of the game. Not a problem if you win your CT every season, but for people like me (one CT championship in like 14 seasons-- thanks to rusticity), it is super-important.

I've been in the same boat as KY the last 2 seasons, trying to schedule the 10 toughest non-conf games I could find. Both times its resulted in 3-7 records and scrambling my lineup around. I think I would have been much better off taking 5 of those games and playing 100-150ish teams that I stand a much better chance of beating.

Honestly I think a "best" schedule is near impossible to really define, like wronoj said, but I'm probably going to shoot for more in the middle of those extremes in the future. I would never fault anyone for thinking/wanting to do it differently though. It could be worse and be like GD was (is?) where you got 2 random non-conf games that either screwed you or made your season..

i think there is a bit of an art to making the schedule...
i try to set mine up based on my perceived strength of my own team and conference. If I am going to be really good and my conference so-so or bad, i schedule a really tough non-con, figuring even 3-7 is fine if the opponents are all good, and then i am going to go 14-2 in conference and then 2-1 or 3-0 in the CT.
if I think my conference is going to be tougher, or my team weaker, i lighten it up. but even going tough or light can be hard, unless you are sure you want REALLY tough or REALLY easy.

I'm in the same boat as kyb and killbatman this season. Scheduled the toughest non-conference schedule I could (rated #1 in D3) and went 3-7 against said schedule. Only difference is I haven't performed as well in conference. Can't beat the top two teams in my division. The bottom three in my division all kil my RPI. Now I'm scrambling just to make the PIT as a result.

We have 2 teams that are winless in our conference and one is winless overall due to inheriting a just graduated super cl***. That kills RPI. Put in another team that I didn't schedule as I forgot to fill up my non conference who is also horrible and the SOS takes a plunge. Look up the RPI over the years and you will see it was usually pretty good going into the NT.
