Since I didn't win my own conference, I'm declaring myself champion of the Upstate (10-2). I'm contacting admin to add that to my resume and history page.

Bradshaw is the best at stirring the Wooden Forum discussion in just the right way!! Way to get folks talking!!

And btw let's not forget about the Midwest Conference, which has a pretty good claim on top conference honors if you consider the past four or five seasons. But I'll be the first to admit that the lower echelon of teams in the Midwest is not so strong as the Upstate's bottom tier.

McMurry

I smell a 4-way conference challenge brewing...

Nothing puts a hop in my step quite like the ole "McMurry" bump.

Norm, do you realize how complicated it would be to schedule a 4-way conference challenge? It would most certainly end with either divorce/flunking out of school/getting fired for whoever undertook the task. If someone were to set up something like that, they would have the eternal gratitude of all the coaches in said conferences.

However, I'll say this: right now the BCS conferences of Wooden D3 are probably:

Upstate
MIAA
NAC
Midwest
ASC

I can't figure out who the 6th would be.

The asc is pretty weak I will not lie we are only 3 teams deep on any given season but I like my chances.

I like a challenge of putting a spreadsheet together, maybe a season away from the 4 way challenge but I'm sure we can take suggestions and get this going. Heck I maybe the worst of the rest but that doesn't mean I can't participate and bring the MIAA down. Something like 1 vs all other 1s from the previous seasons (4 or 5 other conferences) and 2 vs 2 and etc....? I know teams can fluctuate from yr to yr but I'm willing to take all suggestions.

NCWC might not even make the NT this year (need to win the CT obviously), but if we do, I guarantee it'll **** off some 1-3 seed to have to play us in the 1st round..awful RPI but a pretty dangerous team

8/7/2009 9:04 PM
i'm not in for a challenge. not wussy, its just horrible for RPI's. dont really feel like getting into it (long explanation) but i'm out and i'll recommend to my fellow upstaters not to play..

i would do something where its for one of the 10 games. Say NAC vs Upstate for one season... then we play MIAA then next...

or select battles. say four teams play the NAC, four teams play the MIAA, etc....

as long as its for one game, i'm fine with it, but anything more than that and it starts being really bad for our conference.

oh, and case, hamilton, brandeis, and hobart should all be on that contender list. take records out of the equation and those four teams have the same talent and coaching as anyone on that list.
8/7/2009 10:53 PM
I wasn't looking at records when I made the list, I was looking at the rosters of all the RPI top 50. I stand by it. I don't think either Hamilton or Brandeis has a shot to win it all this year, and I think Case is a longshot as well. However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, especially if they care to put their money where their mouth is.

nice work stirring things up in here... i haven't had time to look at the teams in d3 very closely this season, but will say this about the conferences and teams with shots to win it all: there are about 5 coaches in the Upstate, and maybe 8 who are not, who I would put into the convo about winning it all just about any season. I am definitely not including myself on that contenders list, and think I'm about the 6th-8th best coach in the UCAC, where there's no other conference I'd be worse than 3rd. Maybe 4th, if I'm being generous to someone else. I'd put any Upstate south coach in that same position... and the North is really just now getting up and running, so this NAC talk seems premature to me.
