Another thing, ensure you know who you dealing with. For me it is easier if the person gives me their p***word and I log into their account. I personally would never, ever abuse this.
I have also been asked by new guys if they should give their account info to another vet, asking is a good idea. If two or three other veterans tell you it is safe to give it to XXX, then it is probably safe.
If anyone goes this route, I would say, change your p***word, give that to your mentor, when they are done looking over things, change your p***word back. joannes3000, who I have worked with for many seasons, had to go out of town at one point and needed me to manage his teams. That's what I suggested he do, and I think it worked out OK (I won the five games I managed anyway).

Things definitely worked out for us that season, dubs. First and only CC appearance for Puget Sound and I got to learn a lot of game planning tips hands-on. And I didn't have to go out of town, I was recovering from surgery. You would think that my GD mentor/psychologist would remember that.

out of town, out of mind, same thing lol

True enough, dubs. Now get back to work on your schools thread!

question, still confused on the offensive game plan and definsive. I think it is the balanced, conservative, agressive. This has helped out quit a bit. We will see how my 2nd year goes, I think I recruited better this year....few more years and hopefully will be where I want to be....

Yeah I will have to try and see what I can dig up when I get home as I cant access certain things here at work.

You get responses from recruits at the 2:30, 5:30, 8:30, and 11:30 eastern both am and pm (signings start at the 2:30 cycle even though it says 12 they don't come then). To check the responses go to the office page and click the inbox link. It will be highlighted if you have new messages. Sometimes (especially the 2:30 cycles) they are a bit late so don't panic and spend money twice. To see if they responded click on the recruit history link, anything that is highlighted is still pending.
Since I keep screwing this up, I thought I would post about it so you can all laugh at me and not do it yourselves.

This is especially important during the non-game cycles (5:30, 8:30, and 11:30), because recruiting generally runs on time then and it is more likely to happen.

This is the sequence of events in a recruiting cycle that are important to me (I ignore messages except to look for potential):
1. Recruiting actions are processed for all recruits.
2. Considering lists are updated for all recruits.

If you check a recruit between steps 1 and 2, your actions will be done (so no longer highlighted in the history), but the list will not be updated, so it will look like you need to put some more money into the guy, even if you know you spent enough to get on his list because there are only sims on it.

So don't do it.

Wait to get the messages from your actions - better yet, wait a few more minutes to make sure they've been reflected.

This is about the fourth time I've put more money into a guy than I wanted to. At least this time it was early enough it probably won't be wasted.

I have played over 130 seasons and still do dumb stuff like this, so maybe that will give newer coaches hope. Someday you can be old and wise like me and make mistakes.

I would like more clairification on a subject:
"You practice once a day and only on days you have games. The practice runs immediately following the second half of the game or immediately following the exhibition since they sim both halves together."
I change my practice time for O & D sets to match who I am playing and what sets I will be running. EX. Say I usually have:
Trips - 10
Pro set - 10
WB - 10
If I am playing a team with a weak backfield (game 3)and want to basically p*** I will change Trips to 15 and WB to 5. When do I do this. During halftime of game 2, anytime after game 1? If practice is after games then is it too late to change practice plan for game 3 between games 2 & 3? I usually plan for game 3 after game 2 is over say 8pm does this mean they won't use the changed settings until practice after game 3, which would be to late for game 3. I played my last exhibition game 2 days ago and it is 3-4 days until the 1st game of the season. Was the practice after my last exhibition game the only one until after my season opener???

I know GD doesn't mirror real life, but in real life If I was playing a team with a weak p***ing defense on Sat. The week before I will practice more p***ing. So in GD this won't work?

Hmmm...

Just to clarify this point for everyone (or at least TRY to clarify), as I understand it, your team's ability level for each formation is similar to the players' talents.
If you always practice a player's tackling ability for 17 minutes, his tackling ability will gradually get better. However, if you want his tackling ability to get significantly better by his next game, there is really nothing you can do. Having him practice tackling for 50 minutes during the next practice probably won't make a noticable difference. It may make some difference, but not enough to even make it worth the 30 seconds you spent adjusting the settings.
Formation practice works basically the same way...we just can't see the numbers like we can for individual player ratings.
If this isn't right, somebody let me know and I will edit it. I don't want to give out bad info.

Thanks Dukelegend.
All new coaches should re-read this occasionally. Every so often I am reminded of a detail that I had either missed earlier or have forgotten.

Thanks! I'm putting together my first seson and this has really streamlined figuring out what is what on the site. Still time-consuming. But lots of fun. Thanks to everyone who has contributed their hard-learned knowledge.
