just wanted to say thanks to all those that contributed to this thread, and all the others that help us newbies.

I hope that if and when I get acclimated, I can become a mentor and help out the future newbies.

Right now, I'm totally overwhelmed looking at all this...but I think it'll be a great learning experience.

Thanks again vets!

can someone give me a visual sample of how to do "effectiveness"?....it seems my top WR and/or RB isnt in the game when an important 3rd down situation accurs....im in my 5th season and STILL cant seem to get this part right....i was under the impression that all DIST numbers had to equal 100%....and that the effectiveness was how long that player stays in the game before being subbed (STAMINA).....and like rooksplays posted "im totally overwhelmed with all this", im the same way when it comes to advanced depth charts ( EFFECT and DIST)

ok after reading more into it i think i understand now....but i still dont know which of my RBs is the fullback (blocker) in the depth chart....i "***umed" that the 2nd position in the depth chart was FB....someone correct me if im wrong please lol

after lookin over some of teams in my conference to see who im goin up against, i noticed that most redshirts are FR. When lookin at my team the redshirts are SO. I never saw an option where after recruiting u could redshirt a recruit. Am i missing somethin ?

Once your new recruits come aboard (and you have seasons remaining) you can redshirt the FR from the main office. You only have a small window (2 days). If they play in any of the regular season games they cannot be redshirted anymore.

oh i see ....so its prolly a good idea to purchase more than one season at a time ....thanx again for the info.

in addition, i took the advice from "vets" to use the K.I.S.S. method when it comes to OFF and DEF formations....meaning, i practice 3 OFF and 3 DEF formations....dun wanna overload the players with too much info at one time....and furthermore im not Dick Vermeil so no its not wise to throw in 100 plus plays per game LOL....and for those who dont know the KISS method stands for "Keep It Simple Stupid" LOL

one more thing i forgot to ask....how long after practices do u see the rating changes for your players?

Who told you to practice 3 offensive and 3 defensive formations????
6/12/2007 2:15 PM
well, in my first season i was practicing ALL offensive and defensive formations....i was advised to cut out 2 formations on OFF and DEF....so i did...and i started winning games.....i finished that season 7-6 after starting 0-5.

Two offenses and two defenses are plenty for newcomers. Even most vets don't use more than that, and some are very successful with just one offense.

oh ok thanx...i just dun wanna be too predictable ya know lol....and im not sure how long one stays a "rookie", but really im in my 5th season....i just dint have a season purchased in time and i had to get re-hired...luckily, i got my team bk...that happened twice....my 1st season was season #11 in the Heisman World and my team is Anderson University....which is my last name btw lol......but seriously, thanx to all who have helped, i really appreciate it....just i know i have a ways to go before i can compete with the likes of Washington & Lee and Emory & Henry in my conf. lol

I have been in GD for several seasons now and have coached a couple of teams with some success, but have never been able to take the next step. I recently moved up to D2 in camp (2). I decided to read the 101 again to see If I am missing something. I noticed some of the coaches have talked about finding a mentor and how it helped them be more competitive. Can anyone recommend a coach who would be willing to help out and help my team become a contender. thanks

Read the forums and see who makes sense to you, who seems to have a handle on some of the things you are trying to learn. Then sitemail one of the guys. Historically, most veteran coaches have been real helpful to newbies.
CAVEAT: With the new campaign by WIS against corresponding with other coaches, however, helping newbies may be a thing of the past. (If you don't think that is good for the game, consider sending WIS a ticket to that effect.)
Helping newbies and sharing recruiting lists are mutually exclusive. Please don't buy into this lame propaganda from Snake. You can't share recruiting lists anymore and people will continue to help newbies as much as they ever did. In fact, I'd bet Chicken Little will stop crying after another week or two.
